DJ Clyde is a French rap legend. He’s the author, among others, of the hits « Tout n’est pas si facile » and « La Fièvre » of the iconic French group ‘Suprême NTM’. With Trad Vibe Records, he offers us an exceptional project : HYPNOTIK LOST TAPE.
A little background : In 1994, DJ Clyde left the pioneer group of French rap, ASSASSIN, and released the first mixtapes in France. He continues to innovate by going into production for the first time since he became a hip-hop activist. His set up seems very simple but uncommon and avant-garde for the time, especially in France, with a SP1200 and two S950 as well as a maximum of Soul, Funk, Jazz vinyls that he digs with his crew Hypnotyk Dj’s (including also Dj Max and Dj Asko).
About this project, DJ Clyde commented : « Here there was nothing, I went to New York and I saw that there it was more than 10 years that it existed (the mixtapes) and I said to myself that it was necessary to bring this concept in France. So here I am, I started it. At the time, there was no duplicator so we did it by hand, one by one, by hand ». The mixed tapes of Dj Clyde have also the particularity to be realized one shot, live and direct, without the help of computers. An exceptional work.
This emblematic DJ presents us HYPNOTIK LOST TAPE, which comes from a cassette where he had archived beats sent and not retained for the album « Paris Sous Les Bombes » of Suprême NTM (3rd album of the French group).
More than an instrumental album or beat-tape, this project is a testimony of the history of Hip-Hop and moreover of Beatmaking in France in the 90s. It was not supposed to be released to the general public, so we have to enjoy this jewel !
Representing the street culture, this mixtape has a special sleeve designed by the talented graffiti artist Cyril ‘Kongo’ from the famous and historical graffiti crew MAC (founded in 1986 in Montreuil).
HYPNOTIK LOST TAPE is produced by Dj Clyde, with E-Mu Sp1200 and 2 Akai S950, co-produced by DJ Max and mastered by Dyna @ STS Studio (France). It can be listened to on the free BANDCAMP app, downloaded in high quality MP3, FLAC ect formats, purchased as a digital album for 10€ and it is also available on vinyl for 20€. Let’s go !
