Dime x Reebok BB4000 « Ecce Homo »

Montreal’s famous shop DIME is once again partnering with equipment manufacturer Reebok. This next project is based on the retro lifestyle BB4000 silhouette, available in two colorways « White/Blue » and « Caramel Brown/Black ».

This pack is inspired by a completely failed artistic restoration that made the buzz on social networks a few years ago. Spanish painter Elias Garcia Martinez’s century-old work « Ecce Homo » (« Here is the Man ») attracted attention in 2012 after an octogenarian wanted to restore it, but was unsuccessful. The « restored » Christ was literally transformed into a monkey by the old lady. This unfortunate intervention became popular, to the point that the internet renamed the painting « Ecce Mono » (Here is the Monkey) and some derivative products, such as T-shirts, were designed and marketed.

Today, the Montreal shop joins this movement, which can be qualified as pop culture, by presenting us with this duo of Reebok BB4000.

The first iteration consists of a white leather upper with tone-on-tone overlays. This ensemble is enhanced by royal blue accents on some of the brandings, including the emblematic Reebok side vectors, the Dime label sewn on the side heel and the face of the « Restored Christ » appearing as a logo on the tongue label alongside the DIME inscription. As for the Reebok label on the side overlay and Dime on the heel, it’s dressed in pearl grey. A co-branded insole and a completely white sole complete the look.

The second version is dressed in caramel brown suede with overlays and matching Reebok side vectors. To add contrast, the tongue, laces, inner lining and most of the branding details are in black color. However, the DIME brand appears in white on the stitched tag at the side heel and on the black leather heel tab. The « Ecce Mono » logo is applied in caramel brown alongside the black DIME branding on the bold white tongue label. An all-black sole adds the finishing touch to the design.

The Dime x Reebok BB4000 duo « Ecce Homo » will be released early in the new year 2021, on the websites of the two partners dimemtl.com and reebok.fr. More info coming soon, stay tuned !
