The Boston CONCEPTS shop continues to present us with eye-catching and history-laden collabs. After the ASICS GEL-Lyte III « OTORO » paying homage to the exciting rise of bluefin tuna, a New Balance 57/40 inspired by the silent movie « Headin’ Home » has been unveiled.
The new collab with the long-time partner completes the celebration of 25 years of the CONCEPTS store. Its creative director, Deon Point, had given a first look at this NB on his Instagram account this weekend. A more detailed post appeared on the shop’s account today.
The shoe finds its inspiration in the 1920 silent film « Headin’ Home », which attempted to create a myth around the life of baseball player Babe Ruth. The Baltimore native began his career with the Boston Red Sox in 1914 before achieving great popularity with the New York Yankees until 1935.
CONCEPTS wanted to pay homage to this era and the movie poster by dressing this NB 57/40 in iconic colors. To enhance the off-white suede base, the shoe features warm hues ranging from deep red to light orange to bright orange, including the iconic N logo on the side and the waxed leather tongue reminiscent of baseball card packs. The whole is based on a cream midsole, with a black heel clip to match the rubber outsole. The pair comes in a custom Concepts box with theatrical iconography and a matching lanyard.
To accompany this sneaker, a textile collection has been designed. It includes key pieces such as hoodies, fleece pants, crew neck sweatshirts, t-shirts, shorts, shirts and caps. All in colors that match the NB 57/40 special : cream, red, black, navy and white. Only the orange color remains exclusive to the pair of shoes.
