The legendary Californian brand Vault by Vans continues to bring us exclusive collaborations. In addition to the recent release of the capsule elabored with designer Sandy Liang (article available HERE), a collection with Javier Calleja will soon be available. The Spanish artist has let his imagination run wild to reinterpret classic pieces from the West Coast label.
Javier Calleja is an artist from Malaga known worldwide for his colorful portraits featuring childlike subjects with exaggerated eyes and expressions. He infuses a sense of innocence into his compositions and also draws inspiration from fashion and streetwear.
In partnering with Vault by Vans, Javier Calleja used the iconic California brand’s OG collection as a blank canvas on which to draw freely. He explains about his artistic sensibility and this collab : « Drawing on paper is my favorite thing. Drawing allows me to travel around the world in a single day. Being able to explore new materials and bring my art to life on my favorite shoes and clothes has been an honor. »
The Spanish artist brought his touch to several iconic OG Vault by Vans silhouettes : the Sk8-Hi, Chukka Boot, Authentic and Classic Slip-On.
These sneakers appear in neutral colors to match blank canvases. The artist drew his signature big-eyed characters, colored or not, on the uppers and wrote messages on some models : « Change Your Way » and « You Have No Choice ».
This footwear collection is completed with matching textile pieces, colored or white and black decorated by Javier Calleja : a short sleeve shirt, a hoodie and a t-shirt, as well as accessories such as a bucket hat, a tote bag and socks.
The Vault by Vans x Javier Calleja collection will be released on February 5, 2022 at select retailers and online at vans.com.
