The legendary Californian brand VANS continues its momentum of high-end summer collaborations. After recently partnering with KITH and Joe Freshgoods, the surf/skatewear label is bringing us an exclusive collection designed with Bianca Chandôn, the imprint of professional skateboarder Alex Olson.
Bianca Chandôn was born in 2014. Alex Olson created this brand with the aim of offering clothes mixing the worlds of skateboarding and fashion. His collections sport a 70s inspired look, ensured by products with classic cuts and adorned with colorful prints. For the record, the name of the brand refers to Bianca Jagger, the actress and ex-wife of Mick Jagger, a regular at Studio 54 (the famous old New York nightclub) and Olivier Chandon de Brailles, the French racing driver and heir to the « Moët et Chandon » champagne empire.
The collaborative collection is built around 4 classic Vans silhouettes : Sk8-Hi Reissue VLT LX, Old Skool VLT LX, Authentic VLT LX and Classic Slip-On VLT LX.
Alex Olson combined his inspirations from 70’s counterculture and 90’s anti-fashion movements with his 80’s club influences to reimagine these designs. To symbolize his inspiration the pro skateboarder modified Vans’ iconic Checkerboard print. Each sneaker consists of a premium cotton canvas « used » upper, complete with a star pattern that replaces the iconic checks. This new graphic is placed in a similar way to the traditional print and brings a touch of novelty to a familiar makeup. Depending on the model, the pairs are available in white/black, white/red, white/blue or white/yellow. All are adorned with the Bianca Chandôn branding, which seems to be applied with a pen on the side of the dirty white midsole. This mode of inscription affirms the vintage and home-made inspiration of the collab, and also pays homage to the street heritage of the fashion world.
The Vault by Vans x Bianca Chandôn collection will be released on August 20, 2022 at Vault by Vans retailers and biancachandon.com, before being available on August 23 at vans.com. Don’t sleep !
