UNKLE / MO’ WAX x BAPE « Original Headz »

James Lavelle, the member and founder of British trip hop/hip-hop collective UNKLE and music label MO’ WAX has unveiled a new collaboration with Japanese streetwear brand BAPE. The capsule collection named « Original Headz » pays tribute to several iconic illustrations of the British group.

The Mo’ Wax recordings label, created by James Lavelle of UNKLE, gained popularity in the 90s as the precursors of the trip hop, turntablism and alternative hip hop scene. He has also been instrumental in the recognition of many artists including American graffiti artist Futura 2000, who has created several of the label’s covers under the artistic direction of designer Ben Drury.

This collaborative collection with BAPE honors the legacy of Mo’ Wax and UNKLE.

It includes 10 pieces adorned with iconic illustrations such as Futura 2000 « Point Men », « UNKLE sons » characters and logo, the M.W.A (Mo Wax Arts) camo and « Psyence Fiction » artwork by Ben Drury and James Lavelle.

The capsule includes a bomber, shark hoodie, fleece crewneck , several short sleeve t-shirt options, as well as a Bapesta sneaker inspired by the 2003 iteration designed in a UNKLE x FUTURA x BAPE triple collaboration. The color palette used revolves around the timeless white and black to highlight the camouflage pattern and iconic prints. An additional color dresses the base of the Bapesta : water green, while the overlays are covered with the camo print and the heel tab is adorned with pink.

The UNKLE / MO’ WAX x BAPE « Original Headz » collection will be released on March 20, 2021 in BAPE stores and online at bape.com. Be ready !
