Throughout 2021, New York designer Todd Snyder has been offering eye-catching collaborations with equipment manufacturer New Balance (several articles available on this site). To start 2022, the American designer is partnering with Converse and unveiling a « Rebel Prep » collection that combines streetwear and « traditional gentlemen’s fabrics ».
Todd Snyder explains, « The collection was inspired by the way artists, rock stars and other rebels effortlessly mix sportswear with more sartorial styles. »
The collaborative collection consists of 18 pieces, including parkas, jackets, velour sweaters, rugby jerseys, tracksuits, plain or plaid pants and ankle zippers, accessories such as hats and bags, and 2 pairs of shoes.
The designer dressed 2 classic silhouettes of the Converse brand : the Chuck 70 Hi and the Jack Purcell Ox. These sneakers are presented remodeled with waxed canvas from British Millerain. This manufacturer has been making water-resistant fabrics for outdoor activities and military equipment since the 19th century.
The Chuck 70 consists of an olive green upper complemented by a beige leather bottom band, with a matching Converse ankle patch. Orange accents are found on the upper metal eyelets and the inner lining.
The Jack Purcell Ox features a faded khaki upper with orange accents on the upper eyelets, inner lining, toe box and forefoot. It beneficits of a beige leather bottom band and a co-branded cork insole.
Both pairs feature a long white tongue strap with Todd Snyder logo and a matching heel strap. The whole is based on a white midsole coupled with a gum outsole.
The apparel and accessory line features the same understated color palette ranging from olive green to navy blue, khaki, beige, grey and touches of orange.
The Todd Snyder x Converse « Rebel Prep » Collection will be released in limited edition on January 27, 2022 in stores and online at toddsnyder.com. The raffle for the Chuck 70 is open until January 24 on the designer’s website. It’s priced at $120. Don’t sleep !
