The famous designer Salehe Bembury continues to bring his innovative and technical touch to classic pieces of the big streetwear brands. After collaborating with Anta, New Balance, Vans and Crocs (articles available on this site), the former Versace designer has teamed up with the NBA and outdoor label CANADA GOOSE for a collection inspired by the freedom of 90s NBA style.
The capsule is part of CANADA GOOSE’s multi-year partnership with the NBA and its annual All-Star celebration. It’s inspired by the basketball culture of the 90s and includes 4 unisex pieces. Salehe Bembury wanted to maintain the outdoor brand’s heritage while adding a quirky twist that references the bold style of 90’s NBA stars.
He explained, « Each player brought a unique perspective to the forefront that was influenced by their childhood, their region, their team. What had not been seen before by a mass audience became a fashion in its own right…specifically ‘NBA fashion’. »
The New York native played with layering, his signature bold patterns and combinations of color and responsible materials to redesign classic CANADA GOOSE pieces : the Expedition Parka, Signal Vest Sleeveless Down Jacket, Concord Fleece Vest and Tundra Bib.
The Expedition Parka is made mostly of organic cotton and comes in a khaki/blue-grey or grey/beige color scheme. It’s padded with responsibly sourced lightweight down and features a removable vest. It features Salehe Bembury’s signature layered detailing and a 625 down hood with chenille trim for added warmth.
The military-inspired Signal Vest is enhanced with unique layering details and textures. Available in military green or beige, it features 2 large patch pockets on the front and quilting on the torso that not only provides style but warmth as well.
The Concord Fleece is available in black/Northwood khaki or military green/brown. It features Salehe Bembury’s signature « fingerprint » print and is made of fleece for warmth and durability with Artic-Tech. Three handy pockets are located on the sides and chest to store all the necessities for a walk in the mountains or a ride in the city.
Reinvented by Salehe Bembury, the Tundra Bib is the only piece presented in 1 colorway, in this case sage green. It’s made from recycled nylon and filled with responsibly sourced down to help keep you warm. The iconic dungarees also feature military-inspired quilting, front zippered pockets and adjustable black elastic straps and an interior drawstring for an enhanced fit.
The collaborative set features a co-branded tonal disc, a label featuring the designer’s fingerprint motif, the NBA logo and a « CANADA GOOSE SALEHE BEMBURY » pull-tab closure.
The Salehe Bembury x NBA x Canada Goose collection will be released on February 11, 2022 at select retailers, mostly via raffle. END. one is already open (launches.endclothing.com). Prices range from 640$ to 1900$.
