Collection Nike Día de Muertos

The American equipment manufacturer Nike wanted to pay tribute once again to Mexico, its traditions and cultural heritage through a collection inspired by the “Dia de Muertos” (Day of the Dead), one of the most important celebrations of Mexican culture. This year, four emblematic silhouettes were chosen to honor this project: an Air Jordan 1, an Air Max 90, a DBreak Type and a Blazer Mid 77.

These shoes display a design inspired by traditional offerings and altars installed to remember the dead. Marigold flowers, papel picado (perforated paper ornaments resembling placemats), as well as colors and textures reminiscent of these spaces of recollection are found on the sneakers.

This celebration takes place in family, a notion that appears under the inscription “Para mi Familia” on the mudguard of the AJ 1 and the heels of the DBreak Type.

The Blazer Mid 77 is the lightest and understated colorway, it is dressed in cracked leather in shades of white with blue, peach and pastel yellow inserts. The black tongue, lining and heel add a touch of contrast. A yellow marigold flower embroidery on the heel counter finalizes the tribute design of this pair.

The Air Jordan 1 features a white leather upper with fuchsia overlays whose seams are highlighted by their orange color. The matching side Swoosh features fuchsia zig zag stitching, affirming the Mexican look. The orange color on the ankle area, revisited tongue branding and insole complete the design. Waxed black laces, as well as the Jumpman on the sole of the right foot and the marigold flower on the left foot complete the look. The whole is based on a white and fuchsia sole.

The DBreak Type features a color palette similar to the AJ1 with different proportions and layouts. The white mesh base features indigo cracked leather overlays on the mudguard and heel and smooth orange leather on the quarter panel and heel tab. Fuchsia cross stitching and orange embroidery on the side Swoosh provide a tribute to the Mexican celebration. Fuchsia lining and laces complete the design.

The Air Max 90 is dressed in the most audacious design. The yellow base is embellished with orange and green confetti-style motifs. The orange overlays, the green side swoosh, the indigo mudguard are also adorned with these neat and meticulous patterns. The homage is completed by an orange tongue and laceguard with white laces and a fuchsia inner lining. Black accents such as TPU eyelets and the Air unit compartment incorporated into
the white midsole complete the look.

For complete the matching, a t-shirt and a hoodie have been made specially for this pack.

The Nike Día de Muertos collection, available since October 8 in Mexico, will be released globally on October 15, 2020 at selected retailers and on Nike.com.
