This is a news that just shook the internet : the announcement of the 1st collaboration between 2 giants, the fashion brand JACQUEMUS and the sportswear label Nike. Through a short video and 3 photos, the designer from the south of France has teased the upcoming collection with the Swoosh brand.
For a few seasons, the fashion world has been inspired by sportswear and streetwear to imagine innovative collections, as evidenced by the collabs Louis Vuitton x Supreme, Dior x Nike and recently Gucci x Adidas (articles available on this site).
The winner of the 2015 LVMH Special Jury Prize, Simon Porte Jacquemus, has frequently proven his love for the sportswear world through his collections. He even commented : « I prefer to build a lifestyle label, a universe ».
For the little anecdote, the Marseille-based designer is actually a collector of pieces from Nike’s ACG line. In 2018, the American sportswear giant had invited Simon Porte Jacquemus to pose for the campaign of the new jerseys of the French team alongside Kylian Mbappé. This 1st contact led to an association : after 3 years of work, the 1st collaborative opus is born and promises to marry comfort and sensuality.
This collection includes a range of women’s clothing, both elegant and technical, and an assortment of unisex footwear.
Simon Porte Jacquemus announced : « For this collaboration with Nike, I wanted to create a collection that reinterprets athletic women’s sportswear in a minimal way. I’ve always been inspired by vintage ACG pieces and Nike campaigns from the 90s. With that image in mind, we designed women’s sportswear with sensual details and neutral colors, as well as my own interpretation of the Humara, my favorite Nike shoe. It was important that the collection be accessible to all bodies, and that it be a blend of Jacquemus style and Nike performance. »
Among the 15 or so Jacquemus sportswear items with a « French flair » are a halter top with refined details, a pleated skirt, cycling shorts and the French designer’s favorite Nike sneaker : the Air Humara. This unpopular shoe was created in the 90s by Peter Fogg. Revisited by Jacquemus, it enters the lifestyle while benefiting from technical materials. The first 2 versions are dressed in earthy tones.
For the rest of the pieces, we can expect designs inspired by the 90’s, tennis and the looks of great ladies like Lady Di, who is one of the strong inspirations of Jacquemus. To be continued…
The Jacquemus x Nike collection will be released exclusively on June 28, 2022 on the French fashion house’s website jacquemus.com, before being available on nike.com after a general release during the summer. Be ready !
