Back in January, NIGO presented his first collection for the fashion house KENZO (article available HERE). The new artistic director of the brand founded by the late Kenzo Takada does not forget his famous label HUMAN MADE and invests in emblematic collaborations. Today, NIGO presents a collection developed with another brand that is dear to him : Levi’s.
This new opus follows the NIGO x Levi’s collaboration released last July.
The founder of BAPE and HUMAN MADE is a passionate collector. Known for his talents as a streetwear designer, he’s also known for his huge stock of cultural artifacts collected over the years. His collection consists of music records and memorabilia, custom jewelry and other trinkets, as well as vintage clothing. Levi’s pieces are part of his archive and some are still in his current wardrobe. NIGO said, « I’ve been wearing these Levi’s clothes for 35 years, and now that I think about it, it was a very cheap purchase back then. »
The new collaborative capsule includes 2 of these favorite items : the Trucker Jacket 506 and the legendary 501 jeans from 1944.
This set appears in Japanese raw blue selvedge denim with the co-branding applied to the metal buttons. The jacket stands out for its decoration on the back : the colorful illustration of the duck with spread wings, surrounded by the white HUMAN MADE branding and the brand’s slogan « Gears for futuristic Teens », as well as red LEVI STRAUSS & CO. Simpler, the jeans feature the original mid-40s design and the traditional leather patch on the back to ensure the vintage style so beloved by NIGO.
For the presentation shooting of this collab, NIGO went to the oldest kabuki theater in Japan, Izushi Eirakukan. It symbolizes the link between the traditional and modern designs of this collection.
The Human Made x Levi’s Spring 2022 collection will be released on April 7, 2022 at 11am JST online at the Japanese brand’s website humanmade.jp. Don’t sleep !
