The French luxury house DIOR has teamed up with the Japanese brand SACAI to offer us a first co-branded capsule collection mixing Parisian chic with Tokyo streetwear. A total of 57 items inspired by the heritage of the 2 brands and their respective cities were designed.
Kim Jones and Chitose Abe are long-time friends but first-time collaborators. The DIOR creative director and the Japanese designer worked together to create a « true fusion of creative visions ». This project blurs the boundaries between luxury and sportswear with unprecedented combinations of styles. To mark this union, a new logo is presented : the name of the Japanese brand appears in the I of DIOR. This collection is complete, it extends from ready-to-wear to footwear, through accessories. The whole, declined in pure and timeless colors : white, ecru, black and navy blue.
Classic Dior silhouettes are reinterpreted with SACAI signature fabrics and details, and conversely, DIOR’s signature patterns, such as the elegant embroidered flower motif, are applied to SACAI’s own fabrics. Unexpected materials such as Japanese denim are used in workwear shapes and details. Exclusive soft berets, bucket hat and the iconic DIOR « Saddle Bag » reinvented with utility pockets and elastic cords, inspired by the SACAI aviator jacket, are just a few examples. Kim Jones’s overcoats and the Tailleur Oblique suit blazer are adorned with SACAI sportswear signatures like Chitose Abe’s modern fabrications and techniques. In terms of footwear, DIOR Snow and DIOR Explorer boots fit perfectly with the collection with their exclusive branding detail.
The DIOR x SACAI collection is expected to be released in November 2021, in both brands’ boutiques and online at dior.com and sacai.jp. More info to come, stay tuned !
