Collection Denim Tears x UGG

SUPREME’s new creative director, Termaine Emory aka DENIM TEARS, presents an exclusive collaboration with the UGG brand. Through this new opus, the famous designer pays homage to his Black Seminole heritage. He brought his touch to the CLASSIC and TASMAN silhouettes of the brand created by Australian surfer Shane Stedman.

Termaine Emory is known for his unique style that connects art, culture, design and aims to convey strong and engaging messages. He has built a growing reputation as a visionary agent provocateur and counterculture shaper. With his collections and collabs, the designer strives to fill in the gaps in school history books and most of the media, especially concerning the black, Native American and African diaspora communities.

With this new collab, Termaine Emory honors the Black Seminole origins of her great-grandmother Onia. A community composed of original Natives and descendants of slaves who fled to Florida. The creator approached two non-profit organizations that work to preserve ancient traditions, the Backstreet Cultural Museum and the Guardians Institute, to learn more about the history of the Black Seminoles. UGG has committed to donating $50,000 to these two organizations.

Termaine Emory explained : « I learned the historial connection between Africans that were brought here during the Transatlantic Slave Trade and the First Nation peoples that were here. Native First Nation peoples were expert embroiderers, and they began to meet with Africans, who were expert beadworkers. The shoes I’ve designed reference traditional First Nation Seminole footwear, which they wore in those times.

The designer continued : « It’s not just about my family history or the history of black folk that were brought here by the Transatlantic Slave Trade. It’s about the glory. How many kids learn about how America’s capitalism was built off the cotton trade, which was built by Africans? That’s why America is a superpower and we never receive reparations. How often is that really taught?

Every record label that’s made a dollar off a black person singing and dancing; every company in America that exists is because of African Americans, Asians, First Nation peoples, and Mexicans. We built this country and were exploited. All the prosperity — from Facebook to the NFL — comes from us. »

The UGG Classic and Tasman reinvented by Denim Tears feature elements inspired by the iconography of this community and the craftsmanship of the southeastern United States. These 2 high-end versions named « ONIA » are made from waterproof suede and Toscana sheepskin, and come in a dark green color.

The Classic is adorned with a hand-applied embroidery and beading pattern on the sides of the foot. Red stitching on the collar and bottom of the shaft complete the design.

The Tasman is covered with beads that shape an elegant and traditional white, yellow and green pattern. The collar is dressed in black and features white topstitching.

These 2 collaborative silhouettes benefit from a brown sole handcrafted using rubberwood, which requires no cutting of natural forests, thus minimizing environmental impact while providing excellent cushioning.

The Denim Tears x UGG collection is available at denimtears.com and ugg.com, as well as at select retailers and highsnobiety.com. Prices are set at $580 for the Classic and $550 for the Tasman.
