Hong Kong-based streetwear label CLOT continues to partner with major brands to develop exclusive projects. After introducing us to the official version of the Air Jordan 5 Low collaborative (article available HERE), Edison Chen and his team unveil a collaboration with the legendary American brand LEVI’S.
CLOT has reworked classic Levi’s pieces to honor the Chinese zodiac sign of the new year 2022, the Tiger. This animal symbolizes power and bravery, two beautiful qualities that CLOT wanted to honor through this collaborative collection that includes items for men and women.
Edison Chen said : « We wanted to create something that was culturally relevant to Chinese culture, to be able to do something around the Chinese New Year, we looked at what the year meant ». The brand founder Added : « Designing the only feminine side of this collaboration was very interesting to me, because by doing women’s stuff, you can go a little bit deeper (into the designs).
This special line features Chinese-inspired designs accented by an all-over Tiger Stripes pattern. It comes in a light blue washed and bleached color combination. In terms of styles, this exclusive collection includes 2 sets of denim creations for men and women : Type II Trucker jackets for both genders (the women’s version is shortened and adorned with CLOT’s signature Chinese button bows), 551z cropped jeans for men and a high-waisted midi skirt with a slit in the back for women. To affirm the collab, these casually styled pieces are adorned with co-branding, as well as the 2 brands’ logos.
Although traditionally gendered, CLOT says these collaborative garments are intended to be gender neutral so that everyone feels free to wear them without limits. Edison Chen’s brand also explains that this collection pays homage to the DIY spirit of Levi’s and therefore encourages shoppers to customize these items. For example the skirt can be shortened and the jeans cut in various places to look worn.
