The streetwear brand Chinatown Market partnered with Converse to design a collection inspired by the NBA, and more specifically by two champion franchises : the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers. Two duos featuring the timeless silhouettes of Pro Leather and Chuck 70 are presented.
These duos are inspired by the design of the iconic NBA jackets created by Jeff Hamilton for the 1998 Bulls and the 2002 Lakers.
These shoes adopt a bold design and honor Jeff Hamilton’s design with the addition of numerous patches. They also feature embroidery and lettering celebrating their « Three-peat », the triple win of three consecutive championships.
The Pro Leather Bulls is made of red-bordeaux leather with a black toe box and prints referring to the city of Chicago. We find buildings on the back of the foot, the Bulls logo and other ornaments referring to the great era of this NBA team. The Converse chevron on the side panels is pure white and blue to match the laces. The Chinatown Market brand adorns the heel tab. An all-white sole completes the look.
The Chuck 70 Bulls has a similar design. The black print of Chicago’s architecture wraps all around the shoe’s burgundy canvas base. Patches of striking numbers are applied to the side panels and the Converse circular branding at the ankle is made of clear TPU. White elements, such as the tongue with a Chinatown Market tag, inner lining, laces and sole, complete the design.
The Pro Leather Lakers appears in bright colors, true to the LA team. The purple leather base is complemented by palm trees in black print and green embroidered patches. The emblematic gold color is used on the laces and the Converse chevron logo, as well as the ocean blue. This last color also covers the toe box and the medial panels. The name of the Lakers, their logo and the number 02 can be distinguished by embroidery or patches on different parts of the vamp. The whole is based on a white sole.
The Chuck 70 Lakers abandons the purple color in favor of an ocean blue canvas base reminiscent of the atmosphere of the city of L.A. It also appears as a black print that surrounds the entire lower part of the shoe. Orange and red star patches and the transparent circular Converse logo at the ankle complete the design. To finalize the look, the tongue, laces and sole are adorned in white.
The Chinatown Market x Converse Pro Leather & Chuck 70 collection was released exclusively on the streetwear brand thechinatownmarket.com, prior to general release on March 12, 2021. The price for the Pro Leather is 175€ and 140€ for the Chuck 70.
