Collection BAPE x HAVAIANAS

After unveiling a recent collab with artist Hajime Sorayama (article available HERE), BAPE presents us the perfect collaboration to spend a casual and stylish summer. The Japanese streetwear heavyweight has teamed up with the Brazilian flip-flop giant, HAVAIANAS.

HAVAIANAS is a Brazilian flip-flop brand, created and patented in 1962. Inspired by the Zori, the traditional Japanese sandals made of rice straw and wood, these sandals were the first to be made of rubber and mass produced. Initially, these flip-flops were sold at a low price, but today they have become well known and even high-end in their field.

The original Japanese inspiration is reflected in this collaboration with BAPE. As the brand approaches its 60th anniversary, HAVAIANAS pays homage to its beginnings with a voluminous flip-flop silhouette named « Tradi Zori » referring to the angular sole of the Japanese Zori sandal. BAPE consolidates the connection between Brazil and Japan. This collaboration includes 2 models, a Tradi Zori in 2 colorways and a Top in 3 colorways.

The Tradi Zori has fabric straps and a protruding and angular sole. It’s offered in black with a different colored footbed depending on the iteration. Subtly covered with a slightly shaded Camo BAPE for the first version and white/Camo light grey for the second. To complete the look, the flip-flop features HAVAIANAS branding paired with the iconic APE HEAD on the heel and the two brands are independently distinguished on the white labels sewn onto the straps.

Available in green, blue or pink, the Top is the most classic and popular flip-flop shape. BAPE asserts its identity by covering the rubber footbed with its iconic ABC Camo pattern. Like the Tradi Zori collaborative, the co-branding appears on the insole and the HAVAIANAS branding adorns the support straps. On this model, the straps are made of green, blue or pink rubber, and the Brazilian brand is embossed in white.

The BAPE x HAVAIANAS collection is released on August 1, 2021 at select early retailers, as well as on bape.com and havaianas.com, before a general release on August 9, 2021. Prices are set at 120$ for the Tradi Zori and 60$ for the TOP. Don’t sleep !
