Founded in 1991, the famous Californian shop Union LA celebrates its 30 years of existence. Chris Gibbs, its founder, had previously announced to celebrate this event with many collaborations, 19 have been listed. A capsule developed with the New York streetwear brand NOAH is presented today.
Brendon and Estelle Babenzien, the creators of the brand NOAH, are very close to Chris Gibbs and his store Union LA. Through this collaboration, the partners wish to pay tribute to their heritage, by honoring historical black personalities.
The capsule consists of a series of short-sleeved t-shirts in different colors and a black hoodie.
These co-branded pieces are adorned with portraits of black icons, such as Alexandre Dumas or Shakespeare’s Black Lady, complemented by prints referencing the background of these personalities. These illustrations give off an old-fashioned style, combined with current bright or pastel colors. On the back of some t-shirts and the front of the hoodie, we also find a dancing silhouette with a halo over the head, which can be a reference to the departed black artists who invented new musical styles.
