Bryant Giles x New Balance 2002R

The eye-catching design of the New Balance 2002R continues to inspire a number of artists and fashion brands. After SSENSE’s version (article available HERE), this March also marks the appearance of an NB 2002R reinterpreted by Chicago-based artist-designer Bryant Giles.

The now Los Angeles-based designer gives an original and playful look to the iconic sneaker.

Made entirely of canvas, it features a light green upper with overlays, tongue, inner lining and matching laces. Embroidery details enhance this base. In pink, black, yellow, blue or white, some of the embroidered designs resemble human body parts, such as a mouth or eyes, and others are more reminiscent of abstract art. The « What Now? » embroidery partially hidden on the heel appears as a nod to Bryant Giles’ latest collection. To ensure the playful, original style of this collaborative pair, the green side N logo is made of removable Velcro and features a woven construction with a « handmade » feel. The artistic dimension is accentuated by the insoles adorned with Bryant Giles’ art-like illustrations. A cream midsole and light grey outsole finish off the design nicely.

The Bryant Giles x New Balance 2002R will be released in the coming months at select retailers and on newbalance.com. For the latest official details, stay tuned !
