In mid-January, Los Angeles-based artist collective BRAIN DEAD teased a new collaboration with Japanese brand ASICS based on the GEL-NIMBUS 9 silhouette. In addition to this « Rio Red » colorway, the partners unveiled an other « Night Shade » version at the ASICS Pop Up Store in Paris. BRAIN DEAD announced today the global release date for this new collaborative sneaker duo.
Originally released in 2007, the asics GEL-NIMBUS 9 was created to improve the performance and comfort of runners. It has been in the lifestyle category for several months.
The Brain Dead x ASICS GEL-NIMBUS 9 « Night Shade » and « Rio Red » mark the 3rd collaboration between the 2 brands.
These special versions stay true to ASICS’ original high quality materials and key details that ensure the style of the model. The industrial look is reminiscent of the Y2K era with bold contrasts and colors. The « Night Shade » comes in a dark aubergine/deep green color combination with neon green and peach accents. The « Rio Red » is multi-colored : red/light pink/fuchsia pink/teal green/orange yellow/khaki green.
The GEL-NIMBUS 9 revisited by BRAIN DEAD consists of a mesh upper with leather overlays (probably synthetic) and imposing lateral Tigers Stripes. The toe and heel have solid reinforcements to affirm the look. Co-branding adorns the insole and tongue tag. The whole is based on a thick midsole with GEL technology inserts in the heel and forefoot, and a bright, contrasting rubber outsole.
The Brain Dead x ASICS GEL-NIMBUS 9 « Night Shade » & « Rio Red » will see a general release on February 4, 2023 on the L.A. collective’s website, wearebraindead.com and at select retailers worldwide. Be ready !
