To celebrate its 40th anniversary, Japanese brand G-SHOCK is introducing some special products. In addition to the recently unveiled « Adventurer’s Stone » pack, the iconic watchmaker has teamed up with Boston-based shop BODEGA to design an exclusive DW-5600 « Anytime & Anywhere » model.
Originally released in 1987, the G-Shock 5600 has a vintage look that appealed to BODEGA. The Boston team wanted to bring back its historical design while adding new details, both visible and hidden.
This watch combines the characteristic elements of both brands. Reworked, it appears as a model that can be worn « anytime, anywhere », the perfect vision of a watch for BODEGA.
The DW-5600 collaborative is dressed primarily in timeless black and grey colors. Specifically, the translucent gray resin case, which reveals the mechanisms, is paired with a black woven strap featuring 90’s inspired gold/green/red/purple linear patterns and a custom snap closure. The woven part of the strap can be removed to clip on a matching strap (also in translucent grey resin) with a classic clasp.
The model’s signature octagonal shape is enhanced by thin, protruding stainless steel bumpers that create a powerful ‘safety cage’ look. This « tough as nails » look symbolizes the true durability of this product : ultra shock resistance and water resistance to 200m.
The dial showcases retro style with globes graphics, red, blue and gold stripes, feature descriptions and gold co-branding. The design is affirmed by a secret EL backlighting. To commemorate the collaborative project as a whole, the underside of the steel case is adorned with a special engraving featuring the model’s features, globe graphics and co-branding.
This DW-5600 will be delivered in an elegant little green, yellow and brown explorer’s case. It’s adorned with the globe details used on the watch, the co-branding and the special 40th anniversary mention created by artist Eric Hazer.
The Bodega x G-SHOCK DW-5600 « Anytime & Anywhere » will be released as a limited edition on February 17, 2023 at 12 pm EST, at BODEGA stores in Boston and Los Angeles, as well as online at bdgastore.com on a first come, first served basis. Good luck !
