Retailer BAIT has teamed up with Marvel and Japanese brand Mizuno to bring the most famous of beloved anti-superheroes to the forefront : Deadpool. In the 2016 film adaptation, actor Ryan Reynolds perfectly embodies this violent, endearing and funny character. In a fun paradox, the wild Deadpool loves unicorns. The reimagined Wave Rider 1 is inspired by this unexpected love.
Continuing in the spirit of that film (the 8th in the X-Men film series), the runner released in 1998 adopts a bold and playful design referencing to the famous imaginary animal.
With an all-pink color palette, the shoe features a mesh upper enhanced by premium pig suede overlays. Subtle 3M touches, especially at the iconic side RunBird, add flair to the pair. In terms of other branding details, Marvel and BAIT appear in relief on the tongue, the Deadpool emblem adorns the heel alongside the shop’s name, and the insole is embellished with graphics featuring the controversial superhero and his unicorn. The whole is based on the thick and comfortable wave-shaped midsole and rubber traction outsole.
To accompany this sneaker, a BAIT x Deadpool Made in USA clothing capsule is offered. It consists of a light pink fleece hoodie and a white 100% cotton t-shirt. These items are adorned with the impressive Deadpool emblem on the back and the Deadpool inscription in a retro 70’s style on the chest (the same as on the insole).
The BAIT x Marvel x Mizuno Wave Rider 1 Deadpool and matching apparel capsule were released on March 27, 2021 in all BAIT US stores and online at baitme.com. Prices are set at 180$ for the sneaker, 70$ for the hoodie and 38$ for the t-shirt.
