AURALEE x New Balance 550

The New Balance silhouette that is slowly gaining popularity, the 550, continues to be reinterpreted. After being taken out of the archives and reintroduced by New York streetwear label Aimé Leon Dore, the bball joins the fashion world by being reworked by Japanese house AURALEE.

AURALEE is a Tokyo-based brand founded in 2015 by designer Ryota Iwai. It’s known for its clean silhouettes, minimalist style and the quality of its pieces made entirely in Japan. AURALEE is also known for its very soft color palette combining shades of sandy beige, khaki or earthy brown, sometimes enhanced by brighter and cooler tones, such as grey, blue or magenta.

For this collaboration, the Japanese brand remains true to its signature style by dressing the sneaker in an ecru beige colorway. The latter consists of an upper combining high quality ecru leathers : perforated, grained and smooth. All elements of the shoe, such as the side N logo, heel tab, inner lining and laces, are presented in tone on tone. To ensure the clean and refined design, Ryota Iwai decided to do away with any tongue branding and put his brand name only on the insole. The New Balance brand is subtly distinguished in black on the heel tab. The whole is based on a completely ecru sole, which brings the final retro touch. This elegant and minimalist look is in line with AURALEE’s Fall/Winter 2021 collection.

The AURALEE x New Balance 550 will launch on July 16, 2021 at select stores in Japan, before a global release on 10 days later, July 26, 2021. The suggested retail price is 150€ (19800¥).
