A few days after the release of the adidas Adimatic Mid “Neo Green” exclusive ATMOS, the iconic Japanese shop unveils a new triple collaboration. For this new project, atmos teamed up with illustrator TM Paint and Italian sports brand FILA to reinvent the legendary Grant Hill 2.
The Fila Grant Hill 2 is one of the most iconic signature shoes of all time. It was worn by the famous NBA player during the 1996 season. Its bold graphic design and innovative materials, such as high quality leather and patent leather overlays, have ensured its popularity on and off the court.
TM Paint is a Japanese artist, illustrator and designer who grew up playing basketball. He was introduced to the arts through comic books and culture through Punk Rock. The Saga native creates flyers, concert posters, logos and illustrates t-shirts for international labels and artists. TM Paint also founded the creative art label THE B-MART in order to be free to do what he wants in an experimental way. One of his dreams is to hang his work on the wall of every family home around the world. He has put on the market prints on canvas at a reasonable price to give the opportunity to the greatest number of people to acquire his creation and enjoy art more.
TM paint said about this project : “I painted the NBA world, which I love, the way I like it”.
The Japanese artist brought his pop graphics inspired by American basketball and street culture to Grant Hill’s 2nd Fila signature shoe. Available in two close colorways, red/navy blue and orange/teal green, the sneaker sports a bold colorful look. It features ‘Delicious Cookies’ on the strap on the back of the heel and the imposing two-tone ‘CHANGE THE GAME’ inscription that looks handmade on the side midsole clip. To affirm this diy style, the Fila branding on the quarter panel also gives the impression of being hand-colored.
To celebrate the release of this exclusive pair, a TM Paint art exhibition named “I LOVE NBA ~MY DREAM TEAM~” will be held atmos Sendagaya from May 20 to May 28, 2023. All of the artist’s original NBA-themed drawings will be on display. These works are made entirely with paint and pen, they date back to TM Paint’s middle school years when he was a total NBA fan. The illustrative artist explained : “I infused the exhibit with the ‘groove’ of 90s basketball, which influenced me so much.”
The atmos x TM Paint x FILA Grant Hill 2 duo will be available on May 20, 2023 at the atmos Sendagaya store and at the Fila store in Harajuku as well as other atmos shops and online on atmos-tokyo.com. The price is set at $153 (¥20,900) per pair.
