[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Over the past few years, London-based Bulgarian fashion designer Kiko Kostadinov and Japanese sports brand Asics have come up with a number of bold products from their collaboration, ranging from the sneakers Gel-Korika to Gel-Sokat. For the year 2020, Kiko Kostadinov and Asics have come together to once again combine the eclectic design of one with the sportstyle identity of the other on a pair called Gel-Kiril.
During the month of February, two completely different Gel-Kiril colorways hit the market. First of all the “Cilantro/White”, perfectly matching Kiko Kostadinov’s aesthetic world, then a much more understated one, which met with great success “Black / Carrier Grey”.
With the return of the good weather and in connection with Kostadinov’s spring/summer collection, a third summer colorway is proposed to us : “Ice Mint / Vibrant Yellow”.
Kiko Kostadinov’s influences in creating his fashion collections are based in particular on work clothes and traditional uniforms. We find this touch on the design of the Gel-Kiril, which is more particularly inspired by the outfits of horse racing jockeys. Clothes with a great deal of detail, patterns and geometric shapes. The making of this model required meticulous work and a great sense of detail, a quality that also characterizes the Japanese brand.
The two-tone shoe features a sculpted upper with small geometric shapes, made of vibrant yellow breathable mesh and overlays checkerboard patterns in smooth and patent leather in ice mint colour, whose combination and play of contrasts create a chessboard pattern throughout the sneaker.
Beautiful details such as the contrasting yellow stitching on the laces, the alignment of Asics’ letter “A” on the toe box, the tongue and reaching to the back of the shoe, on the heel and as well as the horizontal lines carved into the sides of the sole, bring a tapered impression to the pair that keeps its running style.
The whole is based on a Flytefoam technology midsole in ice mint colour, with a visible gel cushioning system. The outsole is made of vibrant yellow rubber with floral engravings and goes up to the toe box to hang on to the laces, adding the final touch of originality.
The ASICS x KIKO KOSTADINOV GEL-KIRIL “ICE MINT / VIBRANT YELLOW” will be available online on Saturday 18 April 2020 at the usual Asics retailers sites, such as AFEW and FOOTPATROL.
