The busy Japanese brand ASICS unveils an eye-catching new collaboration. Hours after presenting its GEL-Lyte V collection designed with Charlotte Lab School students and the Whitaker Group, the sports label invites Florence Tétier to reimagine the famous GEL-Nimbus 9.
This new partnership is part of ASICS’ « Crafts for Mind » program, which aims to highlight the craftsmanship and attention to detail that symbolize the creation of sustainable and useful products.
Florence Tétier is an artist, designer, creative director and co-founder of ‘Novembre’ magazine. In 2018, the artistic director at Jean Paul Gaultier launched her eponymous jewelry brand ‘Tétier Bijoux’. In an eco-responsible approach and moving away from the traditional aspects of the industry, she offers jewelry from upclycling that illustrates her mantra « Nothing dies, everything transforms ». The designer reuses plastics, salvages toys and discarded found objects to create extraordinary floral and shellfish-like sculptural forms. Mixing technicolor, neon and transparencies with recycled textiles, Florence Tétier finds connections between materials to create organic, almost living jewelry. Each object is unique and quantities are limited.
The artist decided to bring her touch to the silhouette of the GEL-Nimbus 9, a sneaker she wears daily. She wanted to keep the DNA of the model while adding signature elements : a series of handmade jewels made from mottled plastic that can be removed to customize the pair.
Florence Tétier offers 30 unique pairs in 3 special colorways : 2 for men ‘Pure Silver/Classic Red’ and ‘Frosted Almond/Black’ and 1 for women ‘White/Black’.
All proceeds from sales will be donated to the Ecole Démocratique de Paris (EDP), a collective selected by Florence Tétier. This associative school is an alternative to traditional schools. Founded by Yazid Arifi in 2016, it allows many children and teenagers from 5 to 18 years old with special needs (learning disabilities, various handicaps) to « rediscover a taste for school and Learning ».
For the release of this collab, ASICS and Florence Tétier have joined forces with the Marseille concept store JOGGING. The city of Marseille is an important city historically for the Japanese brand and for the artist based in Paris who regularly stays there.
The trio of ASICS GEL-Nimbus 9 ‘Crafts for Mind’ by Florence Tetier will be presented exclusively at JOGGING Marseille on December 14, 2022. The pairs will be available via a 24-hour open auction on drouot.com, starting December 14 at 8pm. They will then be shipped by the Marseille concept store. Let’s go !
