A few days ago, I told you in an article (available HERE) about the famous collaboration between the Boston-based retailer BODEGA and the Japanese sports brand ASICS. This project is part of an extensive program to celebrate Bodega’s 15th anniversary. Having been lucky enough to receive this special GEL-MC PLUS, I suggest you to discover it in pictures on my feet.
While the hype is around hybrid or futuristic models, BODEGA has delved into the ASICS archives to bring out a silhouette designed in 1995 by the legendary footwear designer Shigeyuki Mitsui (the man who created the iconic GEL-Lyte 3).
This collaborative sneaker has a fresh, spring-like look. It’s dressed in hues that evoke this beautiful season : yellow, blue and purple with touches of cyan and bright orange, while resting on a timeless and multidimensional grey color. Specifically, in terms of design and materials, the GEL-MC PLUS revisited by BODEGA consists of an upper combining mesh, textured suede and classic grey suede. The side panels are accented with yellow leather Tiger Stripes with purple trim, and the other side of the foot combines blue overlays and cyan eyelets with a BODEGA-branded purple nylon strap. This element was originally added to help correct the runner’s stride. Today, this clever strap also appears as an attractive design detail. The ASICS « a » logo adds a touch of contrast, standing out embroidered in cyan on the pastel yellow leather tongue tag. To complete the look, the heel, tongue and inner lining are dressed in blue with cyan accents. The insole appears bright orange and embellished with blue/cyan co-branding on one foot and « 15 years Bodega » on the other. An orange lace loop and several small blue or orange stitching asserts the design. The whole is based on a reinvented white and cream midsole with blue accents, coupled with a segmented pastel yellow outsole.
