Faithful collaborators, the brand ASICS and the shop ATMOS present us a new exclusive project. Being able to appear as a sequel to the GEL-LYTE III « World Map » of 2018 (article available HERE), a « Subway Pack » is presented to us.
First teased by KOJI, the famous Atmos designer, these exclusives GEL-Lyte III are presented to us in detail today.
The legendary 30 year old silhouette with the split tongue is declined in 2 « Subway » versions. One honors New York’s underground transit system and the other Tokyo’s, two cities where Atmos is located.
Initially, the idea was to put the 2 route maps on a single shoe, but in order to go through with the project and focus on details, a version for each subway was chosen.
As with the « World Map » iteration, atmos called upon « Tokyo Cart Graphic » to create a graphic that could be adapted to each special GEL-Lyte III. The New York version echoes the Harlem neighborhood where atmos has a store and the Tokyo pair honors the legendary Harajuku district, where it all began for the founders of atmos.
The shoe consists of a high quality white leather upper covered with colorful routes. The split tongue is adorned with the abbreviations NYC and TYO embroidered in red on one foot and « Big Apple » and « Tokyo’s Landmarks » symbols on the other. To highlight the map design, the traditional Tiger Stripes on the side are discreetly included in the itinerary. However, they appear in small size and embroidered in red on the front side of the mudguard. To stay in the spirit of the city it represents, the NY version has a neutral grey inner lining and matching laces, while on the TYO pair these elements are dressed in off-white. The whole is based on a white and yellow midsole respectively, coupled with a white/black/red or cream/black/orange tri-color rubber outsole.
The 2 pairs of the ASICS GEL-LYTE III OG « SUBWAY PACK » will be released on different dates. The NY version will be available on April 9, 2022 in stores and online via an already open raffle on atmos-tokyo.com. The TYO pair will be released on April 23, 2022 via the same sales system starting April 19. Good luck !
