Asics GEL-Lyte III OG « Patchwork »

The Japanese brand ASICS shows its commitment to sustainable development through thoughtful shoes such as the recent collab with SVD on the GEL-LYTE III (article available HERE). The equipment manufacturer continues its momentum by presenting a version « Patchwork » produced in part with recycled materials.

This shoe pays tribute to the origins of asics with its name corresponding to the traditional Japanese technique, the Patchwork.

The silhouette with the iconic split tongue has been reworked using recycled materials from asics deadstock. It contains about 9% of materials from the previously released « Sunrise Reborn Pack » which was itself made from recycled clothing.

Sporting an artistic and asymmetrical look, this GEL-Lyte III features a luxurious white suede exterior with navy blue stitching, and a bold blue and orange mesh patchwork interior with overlays reminiscent of denim in shades of blue. This « split » design on both sides of the shoe was chosen to further highlight the legendary split tongue. Kalin Ishida, the creator of this pair explained, « This in/out contrasted « split » design was inspired by the unique built of the GEL-Lyte III OG split tongue, I wanted to highlight this feature and celebrate it, creating an unique item in process ».

To complete the eco-friendly approach, the insole was created using a resource-saving technology called Solution Dyeing, which is a method that reduces CO2 emissions from the dyeing process by about 45% and water consumption by nearly 33%, compared to conventional processes. The design is affirmed by the recycling symbol applied alongside the asics logo on the insole. White laces and a navy blue inner lining complete the look. These elements are matched with the rubber midsole and outsole respectively.

The asics GEL-Lyte III OG « Patchwork » will be released on July 9, 2021, at select retailers such as SNS and Naked, as well as on asics.com, priced at 140$. Be ready !
