A few weeks ago, I told you in an article (available HERE) about the latest collaboration between the Japanese retailler BEAMS and the sports brand ASICS. Created on a Gel-Kayano base, this last one has a special look inspired by a pun linked to the name of this model.

Word games are an integral part of the Japanese language. To elaborate this exclusive GEL-Kayano, BEAMS plays with the syllables « Kaya » of KAYANO which means « mosquito net » in Japanese. Presented in black, the shoe is adorned with a removable airy overlay imitating this famous mosquito net. Adjustable with snaps, this « veil » goes up to the bottom of the calf and closes with a black drawstring. A black Fidlock strap with a red finish, passing over the tongue area, ensures adjustment and support. Once the « mosquito net » is removed, the sneaker becomes more classic. It consists of a black mesh upper, complemented by tone-on-tone overlays. To ensure waterproofing, the pair benefits from a Gore-Tex lining. A thick and comfortable yellowed GEL technology midsole and a black outsole harmoniously finalize the design.
I immediately liked the futuristic style of this pair. Its aggressive look, its black color and the quality of materials seduced me. For me, this is a real bold and original collaboration. I can’t tell you if this is the collaboration of the year for Asics, but I think I’ll put it in my top 3 Asics 2022.
