The famous Japanese equipment manufacturer ASICS is reintroduced a 2008 running shoe, the GEL-KAYANO 14. The silhouette was recently redesigned as the « UB1-S GEL-KAYANO 14 » by Kiko Kostadinov’s team and Asics designers, who are now working together on some models (article available HERE). The shoe presented today has been modernized to combine performance and lifestyle look.
A nod to the famous GEL-KAYANO series, this version was the first to be designed by someone other than Toshikazu Kayano, in this case Hidenori Yamashita. The latter developed this shoe around the idea of « flash », explained as the action where the athlete impacts the ground with his heel and pushes on his toes for a fluid, strong and efficient running movement. Everything that makes up this pair was chosen or created around the idea of « flash » : lines, materials and colors.
We find an original shape from the late 2000s with improved materials and preservation of the performance capabilities of the initial model.
The shoe consists of a white mesh upper with overlays in silver-colored laminated synthetic leather. Metallic gold accents, especially on the tongue, heel overlay and white midsole, add cachet to the pair. To complete the design, the contrasting black color is found on the Tiger Stripes, the inner lining, the tongue and heel brandings, as well as the small « flash » details on the silver front panel. The whole is based on a modernized midsole with Trusstic System technology, which reduces weight while maintaining the structural integrity of the shoe. It’s tricolor : white, grey and gold, and has an original GEL cushioning technology. A black outsole under the heel, with an addition of yellow and grey under the forefoot, adds the final touch.
The Asics GEL-KAYANO 14 will be released on December 18, 2020 at selected retailers and on the website of Japanese giant asics.com. In men’s and women’s sizes, for an announced price of 150€.
