Asics GEL-Glidelyte III by Kiko Kostadinov

Long before the announcement in October of the signature of a partnership between the designer Kiko Kostadinov and the Japanese brand ASICS (with which he has collaborated for several years, articles available on this site), the fashion designer had mentioned working on a hybrid silhouette inspired by the cult GEL-LYTE III. Ready to be marketed, this new model is called GEL-Glidelyte III and is presented in 2 colorways : black and burgundy.

Initially planned to be released in parallel to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, this shoe was designed to optimize the performance of runners and save their energy. Due to the global health crisis, the Olympics have been postponed and the pair could not be finalized before this fall.

This new silhouette is part of the celebration of the GEL-Lyte III’s 30th anniversary with a redesigned look, but with the iconic split tongue as its centerpiece. It consists of an upper inspired by the original model it honors, combined with the sole of the GLIDERIDE. So it consists of mesh panels, in black and grey or in shades of pink/burgundy depending on the iteration, and matching leather overlays. The shoe has a grey or red PU part that crosses the upper, inspired by the GEL-NIMBUS 5 model. The mesh overlays on the heel are reminiscent of the GEL-HOCKEY TYPHOON 2. The whole is based on a curved sole with GUIDESOLE technology, which minimizes the movement of the lower leg and gives the runner a feeling of fluidity, while saving energy.

The Asics GEL-Glidelyte III by Kiko Kostadinov hybrid silhouette in 2 colorways will be available on November 13, 2020 at selected retailers and on Asics.com.
