The German giant ADIDAS unveils a new reinterpretation of its legendary 50 year old silhouette, the SUPERSTAR. After the famous designer Sean Wotherspoon or recently the chocolate brand Tony’s Chocolonely (articles available on this site), the French artist and illustrator André Saraiva presents his exclusive version.
Born in Sweden to Portuguese parents, André Saraiva arrived in France at the age of 10 and started graffiti three years later. In the mid-80s, he began tagging his smiling character Mr. A and developed his concept of « Love Graffiti ». In 1989, the graffiti artist won a contest organized by the newspaper l’Express, which extended his popularity beyond the street. He was subsequently exhibited in museums and art galleries. For the record, André Saraiva drew about 300,000 Mr. A’s around the world, on the 6 inhabited continents.
The Superstar revisited by André Saraiva has a classic vintage look. The Parisian artist wanted to keep the original design of this iconic pair that has marked the street culture.
It consists of a smooth white leather upper with the iconic shell toe and a matching sole. The 3-Stripes on the sides and the heel tab are dressed in black leather to stay true to the original look. The inner lining, tongue and laces match the white upper. The artist-illustrator’s signature details are found in the tongue co-branding, the heel tab with Mr. A’s famous smiling face with the ADIDAS Trefoil logo drawn on his hat and the side heel is adorned with André Saraiva’s elegant signature. The insole adds a touch of boldness with its candy pink color, an unconventional shade in the world of graffiti but very much used by the artist in his works.
The André Saraiva x adidas Superstar will be released in spring 2022, at selected retailers and on adidas.com, for a price around 100€. More info to come, stay tuned!
