Popular fashion stylist, designer, model and blogger ALEALI MAY unveils an innovative project, following her successful collabs with Jordan Brand (articles available on this site). The L.A. designer is fulfilling a childhood dream : to have her own Barbie !
This figure featuring Aleali May was created in collaboration with legendary toy brand Mattel Inc. and is part of the latest version of « Mattel Creations », the company’s direct-to-consumer design collaboration platform, called « The Collaboratory ».
Aleali May explains : « Dressing Barbies, having fun creating new hairstyles on these dolls, really allowed me to experiment with what I do today, styling for others. »
This special Barbie is a mini-version of the designer. For the clothing set, Aleali May wanted to recreate to scale all the pieces she usually wears to Fashion Week. They are executed with great attention to detail. We find in particular items inspired by the jade jewelry that her grandmother gave her and that we have already seen on the Air Jordan 14 « Fortune » collaborative. This Barbie’s exclusive wardrobe includes black leather-inspired pants and bodysuit with studs and laces, as well as waders. This Barbie will be sold at auction.
A second set of clothing includes an oversized white t-shirt with Aleali May’s famous « A », cargo pants, bodysuit and jade green boots, as well as white heels and yellow accessories.
The second set of Aleali May Barbie clothing will be released in limited edition on December 3, 2021 on the toymaker’s website, creations.mattel.com.
In addition to Aleali May’s Barbie, Mattel’s « The Collaboratory » also includes 3 additional collaborations : Evan Mock x Hot Wheels, Kristopher Kites x Masters of the Universe and Blue the Great x Thomas & Friends, which will also be available the same day.
