This year, Nike is once again paying tribute to the New England Patriots, the American football team that made history in the NFL (National Football League). Between 2002 and 2019, Tom Brady’s « Pats », coached by Bill Belichick, won 6 Super Bowls and hold the record for the longest winning streak in history with 21 consecutive games won between October 2003 and October 2004. The silhouette chosen this year to honor this legendary legacy is the Nike Air Force Low Ultra.
Nike is changing direction from last year’s commemorative AF1 version designed in dark blue Flyknit. For the iteration of 2020, the Swooh brand focused on the Ultraforce variant of the shoe, which is lighter than the standard AF1 Low.
Also, the sneaker gives a classic look, thanks to its white leather upper. The Pats’ signature blue color is applied to the heel tab and the front of the side swoosh, which continues in a gradient leading to red, the team’s other reference color. The old and current red and blue Pats logo replace the traditional Nike tongue and heel brandings respectively. The centerpiece of this shoe is the blue woven canvas band surrounding the foot, located above the white midsole. It features the team’s various mottos of unity and fraternity, appearing in red. One of them « We Are All Patriots » is embroidered with white thread on the blue inner lining. To complete the tribute, the blue insoles are embellished with a different red and white print, the left foot bears the team’s name and the right foot is adorned with the 6 stars corresponding to the number of Super Bowls won. A mini Swoosh embroidered in dark blue on the side mudguard and blue laces complete the design. The whole is based on a white outsole under the middle of the foot and dark blue under the toe and heel.
