The famous Japanese shop ATMOS is closely linked to the legendary sportswear brand ADIDAS. They created together « ATAD » a few years ago, a collaborative store. In addition to offering us regularly revisited pairs, ATMOS participates in the launch of new silhouettes and the reissue of cult ADIDAS models (many articles available on this site). After bringing back the famous ADIMATIC, Koji and his team are interested in the iconic CENTENNIAL 85.
This shoe was designed by ADIDAS to celebrate the 1st century since the birth of basketball. In the 80’s, it was worn by college athletes known to the general public and then spread to the streets to become an icon of streetculture.
Brought back from the archives by the German giant, the CENTENNIAL 85 is brought to light to share the atmosphere of the basketball courts of the time with the new generation.
In honor of the centennial (CENTENNIAL = 100 years), 100 designers who “continue to challenge themselves with unchanging convictions” brought their inspiration for these reissues. They include Koji and Yoppi from the ATMOS staff, rappers ANI and GOTTZ, DJ MURO, actor Nobuaki Kaneko and models MIU, Sayo Yoshida and JIN KAWAGUCHI.
The CENTENNIAL 85 HI is offered in 4 initial colorways : navy blue, wild sepia, off-white and bluish grey. It consists of a classic suede upper with perforations on the toe box and side panels. Overlays appear in tone-on-tone and hairy suede to accentuate the vintage style. Iconic ADIDAS 3-Stripes on the side in white or matching the upper, and a blue and white ADIDAS tongue tag complete the look. The whole is based on an off-white midsole and an outsole different depending of the colorway : that matches the upper for the navy blue and bluish grey pairs, or natural gum for the off-white version, or black for the Sepia iteration.
These adidas Originals CENTENNIAL 85 HI will be released on October 15, 2022 in ATMOS stores, in some ADIDAS stores and online via an open raffle on the Tokyo shop’s website. The price is set at $136 (19 800 ¥) per pair, don’t sleep !
