[:fr]DJ Clyde est une légende du rap français. Il est l’auteur, entre autres, des hits « Tout n’est pas si facile » et « La Fièvre » de l’iconique groupe parisien Suprême NTM. Avec Trad Vibe Records, il nous propose un projet exceptionnel : HYPNOTIK LOST TAPE.
Petit retour en arrière : En 1994, DJ Clyde quitte le groupe pionnier du rap français, ASSASSIN, et sort les 1ères mixtapes de l’hexagone. Il continue d’innover en se lançant dans la production pour la 1ere fois depuis qu’il est devenu un activiste hip-hop. Son set up parait très simple mais peu courant et avant-gardiste pour l’époque, surtout en France, avec une SP1200 et deux S950 ainsi qu’un maximum de vinyles Soul, Funk, Jazz qu’il dig avec son crew Hypnotyk Dj’s (comprenant aussi Dj Max et Dj Asko).
A propos de ce projet, DJ Clyde a commenté : « Ici il n’y avait rien, moi je suis allé à New York et j’ai vu que là bas ça faisait plus de 10 ans que ça existait (les mixtapes) et je me suis dit qu’il fallait amener ce concept en France. Donc voilà, je me suis lancé. A l’époque, il n’y avait pas de duplicateur donc on faisait ça à la main, une par une, à l’arrache. » Les cassettes mixées de Dj Clyde ont aussi la particularité d’être réalisées one shot, live and direct, sans l’aide d’ordinateurs. Un travail d’exception.
Ce DJ emblématique nous présente HYPNOTIK LOST TAPE, qui provient d’une cassette où il avait archivé des beats envoyés et non retenus pour l’album « Paris Sous Les Bombes » de Suprême NTM (3eme album du groupe).
Plus qu’un album instrumental ou beat-tape, ce projet est un témoignage de l’histoire du Hip-Hop et par ailleurs du Beatmaking en France dans les années 90. Il n’était pas sensé voir le jour et être disponible au grand public, alors nous devons profiter de ce joyau !
Représentant la street culture, cette mixtape arbore une pochette spéciale dont le design a été réalisé par le talentueux graffiti artist Cyril ‘Kongo’ du célèbre et historique crew de graffeurs MAC (fondé en 1986 à Montreuil).
HYPNOTIK LOST TAPE est produite par Dj Clyde, avec E-Mu Sp1200 et 2 Akai S950, co-produite par DJ Max et masterisée par Dyna @ STS Studio (France). A little background : In 1994, DJ Clyde left the pioneer group of French rap, ASSASSIN, and released the first mixtapes in France. He continues to innovate by going into production for the first time since he became a hip-hop activist. His set up seems very simple but uncommon and avant-garde for the time, especially in France, with a SP1200 and two S950 as well as a maximum of Soul, Funk, Jazz vinyls that he digs with his crew Hypnotyk Dj’s (including also Dj Max and Dj Asko).
About this project, DJ Clyde commented : « Here there was nothing, I went to New York and I saw that there it was more than 10 years that it existed (the mixtapes) and I said to myself that it was necessary to bring this concept in France. So here I am, I started it. At the time, there was no duplicator so we did it by hand, one by one, by hand ». The mixed tapes of Dj Clyde have also the particularity to be realized one shot, live and direct, without the help of computers. An exceptional work.
