L’une des plus grandes légendes du reggae-dancehall jamaïcain, CAPLETON, était en concert le 8 novembre 2023 dans la salle du NINE à Toulouse. Un event très attendu, organisé avec brio par BKM event et Reggae Therapy Production.
Au programme de cette soirée, qui a commencé à 19h et s’est terminée à 1h, un Sound System, des DJs et le groupe The Tuff Lions en première partie du concert de Capleton accompagné des talentueux musiciens du Prophecy Band.
Un peu avant 19h30, le Blackout Sound System a très bien su accueillir le public qui arrivait tranquillement dans la salle du Nine. Avec des sons internationaux ou nationaux, classiques et d’autres davantage actuels, les antillais Selecta Bisso et Tchalys, avec en guest Mix Killaz, ont bien chauffé la salle ! La foule était ravie de se mettre dans une ambiance reggae-dancehall de qualité.
Elle chantait et dansait déjà, sans retenue, lorsque que le groupe The Tuff Lions s’apprêtait à débuter son show sur la scène du Nine. Pendant environ 1h, ce collectif emblématique a joué ses morceaux reggae les plus connus ainsi que les plus récents, inspirés des plus grands comme Israël Vibrations, The Gladiators ou encore Rootz Underground. Le chanteur Jahvie et les autres musiciens du collectif ont conquis le public avec leur musique à la fois apaisante et dynamique, roots et moderne, qui véhicule un beau message de paix et de tolérance.
Creeks Mx a ensuite pris le relai via la table de mix. Les sons dancehall-soca, retro ou modernes, et la grande énergie de l’artiste guyanais ont continué de séduire le public. Ce dernier était fin prêt à vivre une expérience mémorable : le concert du « Prophète ».
Vers 21h30, Jah Thunder est arrivé sur scène une quinzaine de minutes avant le très attendu CAPLETON. L’artiste jamaïcain a joué quelques uns de ses titres cultes dont le fameux « Fire » en feat. avec Capleton. C’est le morceau avec lequel il a terminé sa prestation et qui a introduit le légendaire Fire Man !
Avec son énergie folle, sa voix et son flow hors du commun, ainsi que ses morceaux cultes, CAPLETON a littéralement mis le feu au Nine. L’accompagnement musical assuré par les très talentueux guitariste, batteur, bassiste, claviste et choriste du Prophecy Band a rendu ce show incroyable. En totale communion avec le public, ‘King Shango’ a ponctué ses interprétations scéniques de grande qualité avec des échanges et des délivrances de messages positifs. Il a joué (et pull up) des sons mythiques comme « Who Dem », « Stand Tall », « Tour », « That Day Will Come », « Mi Deh Yeah » et bien évidemment le cultissime « Jah Jah City ». Le public était hyper chaud et enjoué. Il chantait, criait, suivait les mouvements de bras indiqués par Capleton et ses petits pas de danse. L’ambiance était tout simplement folle !
Après près d’1h30, le show man a quitté la scène du Nine comme il y était rentré : en chantant et remerciant le public.
Comme dans la plupart des concerts reggae-dancehall classiques, la soirée a continué avec des dj sets, cette fois de DJ Madi et DJ Chalo. Ces artistes ont balancé des sons dancehall, comme l’iconique « Chat Dem a Chat » de Capleton qu’il n’a pas joué sur scène, mais aussi des sons hip hop, soca, compas et r’n’b. Jusqu’à 1h du matin, l’ambiance est restée au top dans la salle du Nine.
Ce mercredi 8 novembre 2023, si vous étiez à Toulouse, il fallait être au Nine. Capleton nous a livré une prestation mémorable. Le « Prophète » et ses musiciens ont prouvé qu’ils faisaient encore partie des meilleurs artistes live, capables à captiver le public et mettre le feu sur scène. En plus du show, le Sound System, les DJs et les Tuff Lions ont grandement assuré également. Cette soirée a aussi connu un beau succès en termes de chiffres, elle a comptabilisé environ 900 entrées. Bravo à BKM et Reggae Therapy pour avoir organisé une grande soirée dancehall comme il y en a trop peu !

The program for the evening, which started at 7pm and finished at 1am, included a sound system, DJs and The Tuff Lions opening for Capleton, accompanied by the talented musicians of The Prophecy Band.
Shortly before 7.30pm, the Blackout Sound System welcomed the crowd as they slowly trickled into the Nine room. With classic international and national sounds, as well as more contemporary ones, West Indians Selecta Bisso and Tchalys, with guest Mix Killaz, warmed up the room ! The crowd was delighted to get into the reggae-dancehall mood.
They were already singing and dancing their hearts out when The Tuff Lions kicked off their show on the Nine stage. For around 1 hour, this emblematic collective played their best-known reggae tunes as well as more recent ones, inspired by the likes of Israel Vibrations, The Gladiators and Rootz Underground. Singer Jahvie and the other musicians of the collective won over the audience with their soothing yet dynamic, rootsy yet modern music, which conveys a beautiful message of peace and tolerance.
Creeks Mx then took over the mixing desk. The Guyanese artist’s dancehall-soca, retro or modern sounds and high energy continued to seduce the audience. The crowd was all set for a memorable experience : the « prophet’s » concert.
At around 9:30 p.m., Jah Thunder took to the stage some fifteen minutes before the eagerly-awaited CAPLETON. The Jamaican artist played some of his cult tracks, including the famous « Fire » feat. with Capleton. This was the track with which he ended his performance and introduced the legendary Fire Man !
With his insane energy, extraordinary voice and flow, as well as his cult tracks, CAPLETON literally set the Nine on fire. The musical accompaniment provided by the Prophecy Band‘s highly talented guitarist, drummer, bassist, keyboardist and backing vocalist made this show incredible. In total communion with the audience, ‘King Shango’ punctuated his top-quality stage performances with exchanges and deliveries of positive messages. He played (and pulled up) such legendary sounds as « Who Dem », « Stand Tall », « Tour », « That Day Will Come », « Mi Deh Yeah » and, of course, the cult classic « Jah Jah City ». The audience was hot on their feet. They sang, shouted, followed Capleton’s arm movements and his little dance steps. The atmosphere was simply insane !
After almost 1h30, the showman left the Nine stage as he had entered it : singing and thanking the audience.
As with most classic reggae-dancehall concerts, the evening continued with dj sets, this time by DJ Madi and DJ Chalo. These artists rocked dancehall sounds, like Capleton’s iconic « Chat Dem a Chat », which he didn’t play on stage, but also hip hop, soca, compas and r’n’b songs. Until 1 a.m., the atmosphere in the Nine room remained at its peak.
On Wednesday November 8, 2023, if you were in Toulouse, you had to be at Le Nine. Capleton delivered a memorable performance. The « Prophet » and his musicians proved that they are still among the best live artists, capable of captivating audiences and setting the stage on fire. In addition to the show, the Sound System, the DJs and the Tuff Lions also provided great entertainment. This event was also a great success in terms of numbers, with around 900 admissions. Well done to BKM and Reggae Therapy for organizing a great dancehall evening like too few others !
