L’artiste français Stan Birch aka STANIFLOU vient de dévoiler un tout nouveau projet accrocheur imaginé avec Clarks USA. Suite à leur première collaboration, la légendaire marque de chaussures a donné l’opportunité au spécialiste du custom de créer 7 paires de Wallabee boots pour l’iconique rappeur new yorkais Jay-Z et son « inner circle », composé d’Emory ‘Vegas’ Jones, Lenny Santiago, Jay Brown, Tyran ‘Ty-Ty’ Smith et Juan ‘OG’ Perez.
STANIFLOU est un jeune artiste français spécialisé dans le custom de sneakers, qui apporte sa touche à des modèles cultes depuis 2017. Ses créations ont attiré l’attention de nombreux amateurs de sneakers et de design. Au fur et à mesure, l’artiste toulousain a su se créer une communauté sur les réseaux, et particulièrement sur Instagram, via ses deux comptes : @staniflou, le perso et @floucustoms, le pro. Gagnant en popularité, il a réussi à signer des collabs avec de grandes marques et de grandes enseignes – telles que CLARKS aujourd’hui – ainsi qu’à retravailler des modèles iconiques pour des personnalités comme T.I, Jaden Smith, Jeff Staple ou encore SCH.
Quand CLARKS a proposé à STANIFLOU de créer quelques Wallabee boots pour la légende du rap américain JAY-Z et son ‘Inner Circle’, l’artiste français s’est investi à fond afin d’élaborer des chaussures exceptionnelles.
Il a réalisé un projet complet avec un story-telling incroyable. Staniflou s’est plongé avec passion dans la recherche d’archives, de chansons, de lyrics de Jay-Z et son cercle d’amis proches, en mélangeant nostalgie et bons souvenirs dans le but de créer ‘La’ paire qui deviendrait leur préférée de tous les temps ! Pour espérer atteindre ce but, l’artiste custom est entré dans un personnage : Jay-Z dans les oreilles 24h/24, et 7j/7 en se focalisant sur les rythmes et les paroles, en consultant des interviews de Lenny, Emory, Jay Brown… diggant les débuts de Ty-Ty et Juan dans l’industrie musicale ect.
Staniflou a pris pour base de ce projet : « CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF HIP-HOP, AND SO MANY OTHERS OF FRIENDSHIP » (« CELEBRATION DES 50 ANS DU HIP-HOP, ET TANT D’AUTRES ANNEES D’AMITIE »).
Il a expliqué : « JAY-Z et son Inner Circle sont amis depuis tellement longtemps que je devais choisir une palette de couleurs qui représente le vintage, le old-school… la véritable OG vibe. Black & White m’a semblé être le meilleur choix. Et à partir de là, j’en suis venu à la conclusion qu’ils devaient tous avoir la même paire… mais en même temps unique pour chacun d’eux. »
L’artiste a ajouté : « Il semblerait que je sois le premier Français missionné pour faire une paire pour Jay-Z… et encore plus pour l’entièreté de son cercle proche, qui sont tous des légendes du Hip-Hop. Pour information, on parle de tous les mecs qui ont découvert et signé Alicia Keys, Rihanna etc… Les anciens A&R de DEFJAM, ROCKAFELLARECS et j’en passe… «
Habillées de blanc avec des touches de noir, ces Wallabees exclusives bénéficient d’une toe-box ‘vintagisée’ à la main, d’un très élégant « 1 of 1 » gravé en feuille d’or 22 carats et d’extra-lacets supplémentaires noir/blanc. Pour compléter le look et affirmer le custom, la chaussure droite arbore un logo PaperPlane gravé et peint à la main, et la chaussure gauche est ornée du logo de Staniflou, également en feuille d’or 22 carats. Elles se composent d’une empeigne en daim premium et sont dotées de la légendaire semelle Clarks en crêpe.
Ces paires présentent aussi d’autres détails spéciaux. Staniflou a créé 30 fobs uniques, tous visant à rappeler quelque chose de spécifique, un souvenir. Par exemple, l’un est la reproduction exacte du bureau de Lenny Santiago, un autre est une référence à l’amour de Ty-Ty pour les MaiTai. La plupart d’entre eux sont ornés de feuille d’or 22 carats, l’une des signatures de Staniflou. On découvre également 7 autres FOBS découpés au laser, spécialement fabriqués sur commande pour ce projet. 7 FOBS spéciaux supplémentaires, gravés au laser avec certaines paroles de Jay-Z les mentionnant, notamment « SO EVERY TIME I PRESS FIVE, ALL HE WANNA HEAR IS HIS BOY TALK FLY », une phrase de Jay-Z dédiée à Emory Jones dans le son ‘Do U Wanna Ride’ de 2006, lorsqu’ EJ était en prison.
En plus des chaussures, chaque box contiendra des photos en noir et blanc d’eux ensemble. Des photos d’archives dénichées par Staniflou pour ajouter une véritable valeur sentimentale au projet. Certaines photos très anciennes, d’autres assez récentes, elles témoignent de l’amitié de longue date entre Jay-Z et ses amis les plus proches.

Following their first collaboration, the legendary footwear brand gave the custom specialist the opportunity to create 7 pairs of Wallabee boots for iconic New York rapper Jay-Z and his « inner circle », made up of Emory ‘Vegas’ Jones, Lenny Santiago, Jay Brown, Tyran ‘Ty-Ty’ Smith and Juan ‘OG’ Perez.
STANIFLOU is a young French artist specializing in custom sneakers, who since 2017 has been bringing his touch to cult models. His creations have attracted the attention of many sneaker and design enthusiasts. Over time, the Toulouse-based artist has built up a community on the networks, and particularly on Instagram, via his two accounts : @staniflou, the personal one, and @floucustoms, the professional one. Gaining in popularity, he succeeded in signing collabs with major brands and retailers – such as CLARKS today – as well as reworking iconic models to make them unique for celebrities such as T.I, Jaden Smith, Jeff Staple and SCH.
When CLARKS asked STANIFLOU to create some Wallabee boots for American rap legend JAY-Z and his ‘Inner Circle’, the French artist put his heart and soul into creating exceptional shoes.
He has created a complete project with incredible storytelling. Staniflou plunged passionately into researching archives, songs and lyrics by Jay-Z and his circle of close friends, mixing nostalgia and fond memories with the aim of creating ‘the’ pair that would become their all-time favorite ! To achieve this goal, the custom artist got into character : Jay-Z in his ears 24/7, focusing on rhythms and lyrics, consulting interviews with Lenny, Emory, Jay Brown… digesting Ty-Ty and Juan’s beginnings in the music industry, among others.
Staniflou based the project on « CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF HIP-HOP, AND SO MANY OTHERS OF FRIENDSHIP ».
He explained : « JAY-Z and his Inner Circle have been friends for so long that I had to choose a color palette that represented vintage, old-school… the real OG vibe. Black & White seemed like the best choice. And from there, I came to the conclusion that they should all have the same pair… but at the same time unique to each of them. »
The artist added : « It looks like I’m the first Frenchman commissioned to make a pair for Jay-Z… and even more so for his entire inner circle, who are all hip-hop legends. For the record, we’re talking about all the guys who discovered and signed Alicia Keys, Rihanna etc… The former A&R guys from DEFJAM, ROCKAFELLARECS and so on… «
Dressed in white with black accents, these exclusive Wallabees feature a hand-vintagged toe-box, an elegant « 1 of 1 » engraved in 22-carat gold leaf and additional black/white extra-lacets. To complete the look and assert custom, the right shoe features an engraved, hand-painted PaperPlane logo, and the left shoe is adorned with the Staniflou logo, also in 22-carat gold leaf. They consist of a premium suede upper and Clarks legendary crepe sole.
These pairs also feature special details. Staniflou has created 30 unique fobs, all aimed at recalling something specific, a memory. For example, one is an exact reproduction of Lenny Santiago’s office, another is a reference to Ty-Ty’s love of MaiTai. Most of them are adorned with 22-carat gold leaf, one of Staniflou’s signatures. There are also 7 other laser-cut FOBS, specially made to order for this project. 7 additional special FOBS, laser-engraved with some of Jay-Z’s lyrics mentioning them, including « SO EVERY TIME I PRESS FIVE, ALL HE WANNA HEAR IS HIS BOY TALK FLY », a phrase dedicated to Emory Jones in Jay-Z’s ‘Do U Wanna Ride‘ song from 2006, when EJ was in prison.
In addition to the shoes, each box will contain black and white photos of them together. Archival photos unearthed by Staniflou to add real sentimental value to the project. Some of them very old, others quite recent, testifying to the long-standing friendship between Jay-Z and his closest friends.
The Clarks Wallabee Boots by STAN BIRCH for JAY-Z & « The inner circle » are unique models. Jay-Z and each member of his Inner Circle will receive their own very special variation, filled with nostalgic details and celebrating a very long and beautiful friendship !
