Le dimanche 31 mai 2024, les amateurs de hip-hop étaient attendus dans la salle du Rex de Toulouse pour assister au concert de LORD APEX. Un show hyper cool organisé par BLASTER, la marque rap et hip-hop de l’association Regarts.
Shaeem Wright aka Lord Apex est un artiste rare !
Originaire de South London, ce rappeur britannique allie avec brio style old school et prods planantes. Il dispose d’une connaissance musicale riche, d’un flow imprenable et fait des choix de collaborations variés – de producteurs, musiciens, artistes et DJs – qui se ressentent dans ses sons. Lord Apex s’inscrit dans une scène rap britannique dense, mais à travers ses mots et son paysage sonore, il apparaît comme le pont qui relie tous ceux qui apprécient par-dessus tout le hip-hop et la musicalité.
Le show a commencé un peu avant 20h00 avec Al’Katz aux platines. Ce DJ toulousain joue et scratche des sons hip hop underground. Il a tout de suite donné le thème de la soirée.
A 20h45, Lord Apex est arrivé sur scène accompagné de son dj et nous a livré plus d’une heure de spectacle ! Le mot ‘spectacle’ est volontairement choisi pour qualifier la performance de Lord Apex tant ce show était riche et varié !
Avec le rappeur du sud de Londres, pas d’enchaînements de morceaux de façon monotone ou presque mécanique, comme certains artistes peuvent le faire. Lord Apex, lui, est en totale interaction avec le public. Il échange, écoute les revendications, passe le micro. Il saute aussi de scène pour chanter au milieu de la foule, lancer des pogos et participer à la joyeuse bousculade.
Le public était ravi de la performance de Lord Apex, autant pour ses morceaux joués que pour son comportement ‘à la cool’, sans barrière. L’attitude ‘nature’ et le flow ‘chill’ de l’artiste (pas son style de rap) peut rappeler le mood du Trap God, Monsieur Gucci Mane, à sa grande époque.
Pour rentrer un peu plus dans les détails, Lord Apex a joué 18 morceaux. Des sons de nouvel album « The Good Fight », tels que le titre éponyme en feat. avec Madlib, ‘Blessings’, ‘Phoenix’ avec Freddie Gibbs, ‘For The West’ ou ‘Smokers Lounge’ en feat. avec Bones; mais aussi des titres phares de ses anciens projets, comme ‘I need a Light’, ‘Speak for yourself’ , ‘The Bullshit’, ‘Sunny Dayz’, ‘I need a pound’ et le banger ‘Spliff in the Morn’ avec lequel il a terminé le show.
Tout au long de la soirée, le public était conquis. Il chantait, criait, dansait et souriait presqu’autant que Lord Apex !
Ce dimanche 31 mars 2024 à Toulouse, il fallait être au concert de Lord Apex au Rex. L’ambiance était top, grâce à un artiste ‘sans chichis’ qui apporte de la bonne humeur et de la camaraderie, en plus de livrer une prestation scénique de belle qualité. Bravo à la branche BLASTER de Regarts d’avoir pu booker un artiste autant talentueux qu’authentique à Toulouse !

Shaeem Wright aka Lord Apex is a rare artist !
Hailing from South London, this British rapper brilliantly combines old-school style with soaring prods. He has a wealth of musical knowledge, an impregnable flow and makes varied choices of collaborations – with producers, musicians, artists and DJs – which are felt in his sounds. Lord Apex is part of a dense British rap scene, but through his words and his soundscape, he appears as the bridge that connects all those who appreciate hip-hop and musicality above all else.
The show kicked off just before 8pm with Al’Katz at the turntables. This DJ from Toulouse plays and scrapes underground hip-hop sounds. He immediately set the theme for the evening.
At 8.45pm, Lord Apex took to the stage, accompanied by his DJ, and delivered over an hour’s worth of entertainment ! The word « entertainment » is deliberately chosen to describe Lord Apex’s performance, so rich and varied was the show !
With the South London rapper, there’s no monotonous or almost mechanical succession of tracks, as some artists can do. Lord Apex is in total interaction with the audience. He exchanges ideas, listens to demands, passes the microphone. He also jumps off stage to sing in the middle of the crowd, throw pogos and join in the merry hustle and bustle !
The audience was delighted with Lord Apex’s performance, as much for the songs he played as for his cool, no-holds-barred demeanor. The artist’s « natural » attitude and chill flow (not his rap style) may recall the mood of Trap God, Mr. Gucci Mane, in his heyday.
To go into a little more detail, Lord Apex played 18 tracks. Sounds from his new album « The Good Fight », such as the eponymous track in feat. with Madlib, ‘Blessings’, ‘Phoenix’ with Freddie Gibbs, ‘For The West’ or ‘Smokers Lounge’ in feat. with Bones; but also highlights from his previous projects, such as ‘I need a Light’, ‘Speak for yourself’ , ‘The Bullshit’, ‘Sunny Dayz’, ‘I need a pound’ and the banger ‘Spliff in the Morn’ with which he ended the show.
All evening long, the audience was captivated, singing, shouting, dancing and smiling almost as much as Lord Apex !
This Sunday, March 31, 2024 in Toulouse, you had to be at the Lord Apex concert at the Rex ! The atmosphere was top-notch, thanks to a ‘no-frills’ artist who brings good humor and friendship, as well as delivering a top-quality stage performance. Well done to the BLASTER branch of Regarts for booking such a talented and authentic artist in Toulouse !
