Depuis 1967, a lieu tous les ans aux États-Unis un évènement sportif des plus attendus : le Super Bowl. Cette année, à l’occasion de la 54 ème édition, la marque Kangaroos a décidé de réaliser une paire de sneakers made in Germany, nommée ROOS 34. Ce projet a pour but de célébrer cette finale mythique annuelle mais aussi de rendre hommage à l’un des plus grands joueurs de tous les temps, le running back Walter « Sweetness » Payton.
Pour ceux qui ne le connaîtraient pas, un peu d’histoire s’impose.
Walter Payton était un joueur de football américain de la fin des années 70, star des Chicago Bears, unique possesseur du numéro 34. Il a établi plusieurs records durant sa carrière professionnelle et a remporté 9 sélections consécutives au Pro-Ball, propulsant son équipe aux Play-off tous les ans.
Réputé pour sa puissance, sa vitesse, son talent et sa polyvalence sur la pelouse, il était respecté pour son altruisme et son engagement auprès des démunis hors du terrain. D’où son surnom « Sweetness » (Douceur). En 1977, il est élu MVP de la ligue et depuis sa mort en 1999, ce titre décerné chaque année, porte son nom.
Pour réaliser cette paire, Kangaroos a opté pour de la grande qualité avec un cuir présent depuis de longues décennies dans le monde de la NFL, le cuir Horween. Nom de l’ancien professionnel puis entraîneur de football, qui fabriqua le cuir qui allait recouvrir les ballons officiels de la NFL et la NBA, dans la tannerie familiale créée il y a plus d’un siècle.
Ce matériau de qualité premium, d’aspect et de couleur orange foncé typique, recouvre le toe et le hell counter sur lequel sont gravés les 2 chiffres du numéro du célèbre joueur « Sweetness ». Le 3, sur le derrière de la chaussure gauche et le 4, sur celui de la chaussure droite. Ce cuir sert aussi à représenter le sigle Kangaroos sur les côtés de la sneaker. On retrouve un toe box en cuir lisse jaune, un lace guard et un padding en suede vert, sur lequel est inscrit le numéro de la paire. La languette en cuir jaune surmontée d’un empiècement en cuir Horween, est agrémentée de l’écusson original NFL, où figure le nom de la marque Kangaroos et un ballon de football.
L’ensemble repose sur une outsole en natural rubber et une semelle blanche Dynacoil, fabriquée de façon artisanale et durable. De grande qualité, elle a pour caractéristiques d’être respirante, antibactérienne, absorbant l’humidité et recyclable. La couleur blanche est aussi celle des lacets, qui rappelle les discrètes touches de cette teinte de part et d’autre de la chaussure, créant un beau contraste avec les couleurs vives utilisées.
La Kangaroos « ROOS 34 » sera disponible dans les shops tels que Afew, Footshop, Hanon, Gloryhole, Titolo…le jour précédent le Super Bowl LVI : samedi 1er février 2020. Cette édition limitée à 400 exemplaires au monde, sera au prix de 290€ et en tailles EU 38-47

This year, on the occasion of the 54th edition, the Kangaroos brand has decided to create a pairif sneakers made in Germany, named ROOS 34. This project aims to celebrate this mythical annual final but also to pay tribute to one of the greatest players of all time, the Running back Walter « Sweetness » Payton.
For those who don’t know him, a bit of history is in order.
Walter Payton was an American football player of the the late 1970s, star of the Chicago Bears, and sole owner of the number 34. He set several records during his professional career and won 9 consecutive Pro-Ball, driving his team to the Playoffs every year.
Known for his strength, speed, talent and versatility on the playground, he was respected for his selflessness and commitment to the disadvantaged people off the the field. Hence his nickname « Sweetness ». In 1977, he was elected MVP of the league and since his death in 1999, this title, awarded annually, bears his name.
To make this pair, Kangaroos made the choice of high quality with a leather that has been present for decades in the NFL world, the Horween leather. The name of the professional and then football coach,who made the leather that would cover the official NFL and NBA balls, in the family tannery created over a century ago.
The premium quality material, with a typical dark orange apparency and colour, covers the toe and the hell counter on which are engraved the 2 digits of the famous player number « Sweetness ». The 3, on the back of the left shoe and the 4, on the back of the right shoe. This leather is also used to represent the Kangaroos logo on the sides of the sneaker. There is a yellow smooth leather toe box, a lace guard and a green suede padding, on which the number of the pair is written. The yellow leather tongue, topped with a Horween leather insert, is ornamented with the original NFL crest logo, featuring the Kangaroos brand name and a football.
The whole is based on a natural rubber outsole and a white Dynacoil sole, handcrafted and durable. It’s of high quality, breathable, antibacterial, moisture absorbing and recyclable. The white color is also the laces colour, which is reminiscent of the discreet touches of this shade on either side of the shoe, creating a beautiful contrast with the bright colours used.
The Kangaroos « ROOS 34 » will be available in stores such as Afew, Footshop, Hanon, Gloryhole, Titolo…the day before the Super Bowl LVI : Saturday 1st February 2020. This limited edition of 400 pairs worldwide, will be at the price of 290€ and in EU sizes 38-47
